Places to Skate!

RINKS

"ROLLER PARK - PARQUE DOS PATINS"
The biggest rink in Rio, measuring 2 thousand square meters. Located at "Lagoa Rodrigo de Freitas", between "Clube Piraque" and "Estação do Corpo", right next to the Heliport.
The rink's surface is smooth concrete, like a sports court, excellent for skating. Its large space with supporting bars specially designed for skaters are appropriate for begginers. There's a parking lot next to the rink with plenty of parking space available, except on the busier evenings where the surrounding restaurants and bars are at capacity (fridays, saturdays and sundays from 8pm on).
In the park where the rink is located you can rent roller skates. There are also basketball and tennis courts, a children's playground, and bicycle and tricycle rentals.

LEME ARENA
Located in front of the army’s base in Leme.

GAROTA DE IPANEMA PARK
Located in Arpoador. Currently the surface is in very poor condition.

ARPOADOR CIRCLE
Small space in front of Praia do Diabo, a beach in Arpoador.

HUMAITÁ CIRCLE
Next to Rebouças tunnel. No parking lot and not a very popular location.

BICYCLE TRACKS
Spread all around the city. Skaters are welcome on these bicycle tracks as long as they use them for transportation or fitness training.
The tracks cover 147km and by the end of 2004 they will be covering over 200km. Local laws also allow for use of the tracks for running and skating (unless otherwise indicated by signs) on the right side as long as a brisk pace is maintained. It is very important that these rules be followed in order to avoid any inconvenience or complaints by cyclists.

LEISURE AREAS
Sea strip from Copacabana to Leblon and onto the Aterro do Flamengo (on Flamengo beach) at the south part of the city and Av. Dias da Cruz, located at Méier neighborhood. Many skaters gather at these areas on Sundays. Although the leisure areas are great for recreational skating, caution is advised because they are shared areas where you will find eveything from bicycle riders to parents with baby strollers.
